I'm currently taking two edX courses while building GradePoint. I'm also searching for a job in the mean-time, applying from place to place with absolutely no luck. Online, you get a polished lifestyle. They say "Here's how I bought back my time!" then they give a very vague summary of what they are actually doing and how they do it. When you search up how to do it, you realize there are a lot of steps. It's makes you almost not want to do it, but I did it. In my head... I have no other option. I've lost tons of "9-5's", stayed broke, got tired of being broke. You trade on boss for many. Each customer purchasing your product is your boss, That's the sad reality.
Most SaaS businesses fail. Do you know why? There is a lack of true product-market fit. most people try and reinvent the wheel. The market is over-saturated. If you have an idea, most of the time it's already been built ot it is being built. I hate to say it... GradePoint is the same way. I am certain there is an application out there that is almost identical to what I am trying to build. Have I found it yet? Nope. Will there be one? A founder could probably launch one tomorrow, have theirs finished before I even have my product in a beta stage. Does that discourage me? A little bit yes, but I am soon realizing that almost every application is the same. You can have a great app and it will get you nowhere, why? One word...marketing.
I have had a wait-list for GradePoint up since July 22nd, barely any signups. I try to find my ICP, Reddit mods ban me. X, they give me lows views. Only 2-3 every post. It's exhausting, haha. The most views I have gotten on Gradepoint has been through Instagram Reels. I think I am sitting at 1.5k views at the moment, that is not for just one video. That is for all videos posted this months.
Don't even get me started on the psychological aspect of this industry, everything rest on your shoulders. It's a stressful thing. Fear is a powerful motivator if used correctly. If you found a startup today and you odn't have any cash to invest into infrastructure, tools, and etc. You have to research everything for days, if not weeks. I know, it sounds like I am complaining about the whole thing.
"Brandon, if it's that bad why don't you just stop?"
Well, you want the truth? I haven't really amounted to anything. I want something I can be proud of. I want to earn back my time and live a life I won't regret. I don't want to be comfortable anymore. Life is short, time is an expensive currency. I have all the time in the world but I don't have any to waste. I want to be rich, not in wealth primarily. I want to be rich in life. The wealth just comes second in my mind. I want to buy back my time, take care of the people I love. To me that matters more than failing...
